Methods to Trap Schaumburg Chipmunks

If you are in trouble due to Schaumburg chipmunks and need a humane way to deal with these creatures, the best idea is to look for a live cage trap. The market is loaded with a wide range of chipmunk traps that can be used by anyone with ease. However, if you are a beginner and want some tips to be successful with chipmunk trapping procedures, it is good to go through the details below to ensure desired results.

Choose the right trap:
First of all, the most important task that you need to do is choose the right Illinois chipmunk trap. You may find so many designs and size ranges in the market, it is good to pick one with around 10-20 inches long. Note that small traps are usually designed with small mesh openings, so chipmunks can easily find a way to steal the bait and run away. There are two types of live cage traps; the first one is one door traps that are often used by professionals as they allow easy and best bait placement. Another option is two door trap that provides higher catch rate with dual entry mechanism.

Finalize location:
Before you set the trap, find some time to explore the area where Schaumburg chipmunks are observed so often. It is important to mark the points with the highest activity because setting trap at that location can ensure higher success rate. In most cases, chipmunks prefer to live in the covered and secured spaces as like brushes, below trees, burrows, underneath structures, along fences and walls, sheds and attics.

Select bait position:
Once you have finalized the location of the trap, it is time to set the bait to attract Illinois chipmunks. It is good to choose the odor rich food items that can attract these rodents easily. You can spread some peanut butter directly over the trigger plate or use a solid bait for the trap that has larger mesh openings. Make sure that bait is positioned correctly on trigger plate and chipmunks cannot steal it.

Set the trap:
Now you are ready with the bait and trap, so it is time to set it with careful balancing of rods. It is good to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure proper setting. Note that small traps are more sensitive to movement or vibration, so it is good to place it at the proper location. When you set up a trap, make sure that your kids and pets do not go close to the area. Also, it is important to check the trap time to time because a trapped chipmunk will need immediate release out of the property. These creatures soon get dehydrated or may feel starved and anxious; hence, it is important to check the trap more often.

Release the rodent:
Once you have captured the Schaumburg rodent, it is time to approach the trap gently and take it out of your property. Prefer to wear thick gloves with handling the trap so that anxious chipmunk cannot bite or scratch you. Release the rodent out of the city but make sure it can avail enough sources for survival at this place.
